Cerritos College Launches Web-based Student Center with PeopleSoft Upgrade

Norwalk, CA-based Cerritos College said it has completed a major IT system upgrade--on time and under budget--after partnering with Ciber Enterprise Solutions.Ciber worked with Cerritos to upgrade the college's Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 8.0, Enterprise Portal 8.0, and Human Capital Management 8.0 applications to the most recent 9.0 releases. The upgrade includes enhancements for Cerritos to help it comply with state and federal reporting requirements for higher education institutions.
As part of the upgrade, the school launched a new Web-based Student Center, which provides students with access to academic and financial records.
"Ciber was instrumental in ensuring an efficient go live," said Lee Krichmar, director of IT. "We were able to reduce our go-live activities, including patching, from six days down to 48 continuous hours. Our multiple 'test moves to production' allowed us to evaluate each step and to streamline our processes."
The migration plan encompassed running through upgrade scripts and completing test runs; performing the migration, addition and testing of 150 security profiles; and documenting each step for the launch.
Ciber had successfully worked with Cerritos previously to implement Oracle PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Student Administration version 8.0. In a statement, the company said that about a quarter of Oracle and PeopleSoft higher education customers have worked with Ciber to implement and upgrade their software.
The college has 1,200 students and is located in Los Angeles County.

McGill University Library in Montreal will be using a Kirtas Technologies APT BookScan 2400RA to digitize its collections. The company says that the 2400RA is capable of acquiring page images at the rate of 2,400 pages per hour. The library will be working with Ristech, a Canadian reseller, to implement the digitization solution.
