Short-Throw ProjectorDemonstrated at InfoComm this past June, the PLC-XL50 LCD projector from Sanyo can project an 80-inch image from a distance of about 3 inches. A new optical engine with a high-precision aspheric mirror, combined with a distortion-correction-mechanism lens, enables large magnification without distortion, even from ultra-short distances. And a proprietary optical and cooling mechanism allows the PLC-XL50 to be positioned vertically or horizontally—for floor, tabletop, and wall-mounted projection. Additional specs: 2000 lumens, 1024 x 768 resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio, and builtin vibration sensor alert. The PLC-XL50 will be available in December with a target MSRP under $5,000.
Location-Based Integration ControlThe new Anterus product line from AMX is a radio frequency identification (RFID) solution designed for use with integrated control systems. The line consists of three RFID tags—an Asset Tag, ID Badge, and Key Chain (which are attached to equipment, worn by people, or attached to key chains, to identify and track location as well as trigger automated events)—plus an RFID Reader (pictured), which communicates between the RFID tags and the NetLinx Controller (the nerve center of the control system). The RFID tags enable system administrators to pinpoint the exact location of devices such as projectors, DVD players, or laptops, and allow the equipment to be tracked as it moves in and out of areas monitored by Anterus. Users wearing the Anterus Key Chain can automatically trigger a series of automated events (such as lights turning on and temperature adjusting to a specified level) simply by walking into a room. Zimbra, a provider of open source collaboration and messaging software, has launched Zimbra Archiving and Discovery, an optional licensed add-on to the Zimbra Collaboration Suite that provides administrators with a robust, scalable solution to archive e-mail messages, and an easy-to-use, Ajax-based interface to quickly search and discover messages across any subset of mailboxes. The solution allows organizations to leverage Zimbra’s tools and popular Ajaxbased administrative web client to reduce the burden of implementing retention, discovery, and regulatory compliance. Zimbra Archiving and Discovery licenses are sold in blocks of 25 mailboxes with prices starting at $24/mailbox/year.
