Mercer University Broadens Mobile Communications

Mercer University will deploy mobile communication software from Rave Wireless and Sprint for the fall 2007 semester. The software will offer students and faculty a variety of ways to communicate, via text message and mobile Internet, campus information."The partnership between Mercer, Sprint and Rave Wireless provides a state of the art Campus Communication Program that assures students have instant access to a broad spectrum of information tools," said Richard N. Goddard, vice president and chief technology officer for Mercer. "This program improves safety and security, enhances access to education applications, broadens communication options between students and faculty, and assures signal reception in every university facility."
Students can choose groups and content options as well as their alerting preference within the program, according to Rave. Additional features include:
- News alerts;
- Group text messaging and polling;
- Campus directories;
- University events calendar;
- Shuttle bus locations;
- Class Schedules; and
- Reminders.
Mercer University, with primary locations in Macon, GA and Atlanta, GA, is a private institution with 7,300 students currently enrolled in 11 schools and colleges.
