Texas A&M Wins National Cyber Defense Competition

Texas A&M placed first at second annual National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition held in San Antonio, TX. The winning team received an invitation to attend a national security exercise in Washington, DC in 2008.The competition was designed to give students a chance to use their education in a real-world environment, according to University of Texas in San Antonio, which hosted the competition.
Four teams of undergraduate and graduate students competed at the national event on how best to maintain a business network under a cyber attack. Each team had to protect a functional network with e-mail, websites, data files, and users, for a fictitious business during the three-day competition.
Other universities participating at the in the final competition included University of Louisville, Millersville; University of Pennsylvania; and Indiana Tech. Teams had to advance from regional and state competitions before competing in the National event.
